About the Santa Clara Valley Mathematics Association… The mission of Santa Clara Valley Math Association is to encourage involvement in and enthusiasm about mathematics among students and teachers at all levels of education. The Santa Clara Valley Mathematics Association (SCVMA) maintains close affiliations with the California Mathematics Council (CMC) and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM). This allows SCVMA’s members to keep current on mathematics conferences, curriculum changes, education-related government legislation, and other activities and initiatives related to teacher development and mathematics education. SCVMA sponsors activities including the SCVMA Mathematics Mini-Conference for teachers in grades K-8 with focused presentations or workshops for K-8 teachers, various math competitions, and the Spring Awards Banquet honoring outstanding teachers, professors, and students. Other activities that make a difference in the lives of Santa Clara Valley students include the Annual American Institute for Mathematics (AIM)—Stanford Mathematics Department Lecture at Stanford University, the Bay Area Mathematical Adventures (BAMA) at Santa Clara and San Jose State Universities, and the San Jose Math Circle at San Jose State University. The strength in any professional organization lies in its membership. While most of our members participate in mathematics teaching from kindergarten through the university level, we also have members who are Friends of Education who have shown genuine interest in the Association’s activities and provide guidance and mentoring to our members and their students. If you are interested in mathematics or mathematics education, consider joining SCVMA. Parents and friends of education are also welcome. Please take a moment to complete the online SCVMA Membership Form. |
